Fall 2020 at Sullivan Stewart!

Though this fall has been slightly different at Sullivan Stewart, our dancers are still learning, growing, and improving! Some of the highlights include: the start of our fall tots and beginner classes, our Beginner 2 students starting hard shoe, the New England Traditional Set Challenge for our novice to champ dancers, and the Cornphíopa le Chéile (hornpipe together) competition for our open champ level dancers, in which they had to choreograph four fast hornpipe steps. Looking forward, we are excited about hosting our first class feis this November and holding school-wide grade exams at the end of the year.

Sullivan Stewart Summer Camp and Grade Exams 2018!
Come and swing by our open house! This is a great opportunity to experience a day at the Sullivan Stewart studio and meet some of our teachers, parents, and students. We strongly recommend this for parents whose children are interested in potentially taking lessons this fall, as it is a great way to introduce kids to irish dance and see what a normal day of classes at the studio is like! And don't worry, there will be snacks :)

This is the third year that we have held grade exams for our Sullivan Stewart campers, and we are so proud of all our dancers! Grade exams are a series of twelve 'exams' ranging from beginner to champ level were recently instilled into the irish dance curriculum by the main irish dance organization, CLRG. Though they may sound daunting, but they are actually a great, non competitive way for dancers to show their progress and skill. Our dancers did an excellent job of focusing and working hard to prepare for their grade exams throughout the camp week. We had dancers doing grades 1-9, and are proud to say they all passed with distinction and/or honors! Great work girls and boys :)
2018 North American Irish Dance Championships
This year the North American Irish Dance Championships (nationals) is being held in Orlando Florida throughout the first week of July. We are very fortunate to have 8 dancers who have qualified for this event and would like to express how proud we are of each and every one of them. Not only are these girls extremely hard workers and dedicated dancers, they set an amazing example for all the dancers at the studio. They are always at class and never miss a chance to dance, putting in the extra work both inside and out of class to achieve their goals. We often get the question from dancers who aspire to one day dance at nationals how you can qualify for this event. The technical definition is to qualify at your regional Oireachtas in the solo level competition or to win two firsts in preliminary championships (depends on region) and qualify for open. However, the real answer is much harder to express in words than simply stating the literal qualification. These dancers spend countless hours both in the studio and at home working to become stronger athletes and to perfect their technique. They have made sacrifices and pushed themselves past what any of us, including themselves, thought they were capable of. As we near the final stretch of training, we would like to congratulate our girls for all they have accomplished so far and wish them the best of luck at the nationals next week. Keep up the good work girls, your almost there!
Summer Camps!
We are having our beginner summer session on July 16-20. Classes for this program meet daily from 5:00-6:00 P.M. This session is a great chance for kids to get a taste of Irish Dance and make some new friends along the way! We are starting a new beginner class this year, so these camps are a great introduction to Irish Dance! For our dancers who have taken an official class at Sullivan Stewart, we are having a week of camp from July 9th-13th. During this week we will be working on technique and strength, but will also be doing fun activities such as arts and crafts, games, and special extra activities with guest instructors! At the end of the week we will host our third annual grade exams, a chance for our dancers to show what they have learnt throughout the camp week in a noncompetitive environment.
Oireachtas Rince Na Cruinne,
2018 Worlds Irish Dancing Championships
This year, we had two phenomenal dancers compete at the 2018 Irish Dance Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Our two girls, Annie Stewart and Johanna Holmes, made us very proud by stepping on the worlds stage and dancing their absolute best! Compete at this level of competition meant that they were in the top 1% of Irish dancers, and we were very proud of them for qualifying for the event. In addition to this, Johanna recalled and placed 24th overall in girls u13! Congratulations to our two dancers, we are so proud of you both and your hard work to get here!
Our very own Johanna appearing in the New York Post!
